Falling Tree Kills Local Priest

A Purcellville man died Wednesday morning after he was struck by a falling tree along Harmony Church Road, according to a release from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Around 9 a.m. Father Michael C. Kelly, 53, was driving on Harmony Church Road south of Holmes Mill Road near Hamilton when he came across a fallen tree. Father Kelly was attempting to move the tree from the roadway when a second motorist stopped to help. At that time a second tree broke and fell to the ground striking Father Kelly. He lost his life at the scene.

Father Kelly was the priest at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Purcellville.
