Weekend Roundup: A Gingerbread Christmas

Take a break from the Christmas shopping, and enjoy a variety of Christmas entertainment and family time around Loudoun County this weekend. In Sterling, the Sterling United Methodist Church will host "Fireside Christmas," a family-oriented evening of songs and humorous skits. Or, join the Lansdowne culinary team to create a gingerbread house. For those in the Leesburg area, take in an ensemble performance of "A Christmas Carol" at the Oatlands Carriage House on Sunday evening.

Christmastime in Sterling

"Fireside Christmas," an evening of songs, comedy, inspirational readings, and other entertainment is presented by the Sterling United Methodist Church Friday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.

All the community is welcome to attend, and there is no admission fee. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call the church office at 703-430-6455.

Build a Gingerbread House

If you would like to make a gingerbread house, but need a little help, the Lansdowne culinary team is providing the ingredients and guidance Saturday, Dec. 20 from 9 a.m. to12 p.m. Admission is $68 for two people (each extra guest is $10), and includes ingredients for an entire gingerbread house as well as a disposable camera to photograph the event.

The Broad Run and Briar Woods choral groups will be performing throughout the morning. Reservations are required. Contact the Lansdowne Resort at 703-729-8400 to purchase tickets.

"A Christmas Carol"

The Oatlands Carriage House presents Charles Dickens's tale of "A Christmas Carol" Sunday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. The theatre will be open one hour prior to the show for light refreshments. Visitors can also stop by the open gift shop. Admission is $15 for adults, and $5 for children 12 years and younger. For more information, call the Oatlands Carriage House at 703-777-3174,
