The Washington Post published its All-Met section for fall sports on Wednesday and there were a few familiar Loudoun area names.
Broad Run's Mike Burnett was named our All-Met football coach of the year after leading the Spartans to the Virginia AA Division 4 state championship. Burnett took over a team that was 1-9 in 2005 and in just his third season led the Spartans to their first state title in school history.
Meantime, Mike Olson and Zach Thompson of Stone Bridge were first-team All-Met in football on defense. Olson and Thompson were part of a unit that helped the Bulldogs smother opponents en route to a 13-1 season and an appearance in the AAA Division 5 state semifinals.
Another All-Met first-teamer was Loudoun County's Shaylin O'Connell in volleyball. O'Connell was instrumental in helping the Raiders win their second straight AA state title and was also the Dulles District player of the year.

Can Briar Woods make it three straight playoff appearances after jumping up to Division 4?

I think that a special recognition of Tori Janowski is in order for her All Met honorable mention. Tori is a sophmore who was a presence on the court for P Falls. A great student, she also skipped a grade so should be a freshman. She is one to watch in the coming years.

Personally, my thoughts on Tori is that yes she was a good player, but where was she when it came to District play, Regional play, and even states? Julianne Hanna was a TRUE presence on the court, even in the state championship match.

and I think it is a HUGE accomplishment that Mike Burnett was awarded All-Met coach of the year. He has done a tremendous job at Broad Run and it has been nice to see their program turn around. Thanks for bringing the title to Loudoun Mr. Burnett... Congratulations from LCHS
