Hey, politically-correct WaPo. The decorations are not for a 'holiday' but for a HolYday called CHRISTMAS.

Yeah, I've yet to see Eid decorations. Or Kwanzaa decorations for that matter.

Way to Go! We love your house decorations!
Merry Christmas! ;)

Hey Segeny - Just when did Christmas, the religious holiday, have anything to do with Snow Man decorations????

Hey lesliej - - since when were Christmas decorations restricted to the Snow Man? Have you been ingesting too much of that snow again? Yo momma would be shamed.

The meaning of the word "holiday" has evolved over the years. I think it is appropriate and I think it reflects our current society. I love the decorations and it doesn't matter whether they are for Christmas (Christ's Mass), secular Christmas with Santa and his elves, winter celebrations, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Eid or whatever our friends are celebrating. Enjoy, and whatever you are celebrating this season, may it be joyful and happy! Thus, I will say "Happy Holidays!"

I just heard the BOS is going to tax each light bulb. Could it be true?

momof2 is barfingly politically-correct and oblivious and/or opposed to Christian tradition and belief. Thus I will continue to red-pen in the middle "Y" in HolYday and will continue to say "Merry CHRISTmas" to any and all. And if momof2 (may God help her children) is offended - - tough.

segeny -

momof2 doesn't care what you red-pen in and no, she is not offended. She (I) am not oblivious of Christian tradition and belief. And no thank you, you don't need to worry about my children. They are doing quite well without your concern.

If you want to wish Merry Christmas to someone of a different faith, fine, that is your choice. You can't see that someone of a different faith might be offended? The reason would not be that they don't like Christmas, it would be due to your lack of respect for their faith and their feelings. Do you want someone to wish you a Happy Hanukkah even though you are a Christian? I recognize that there are many different faiths in our world and I am not so self-righteous that I will say that my beliefs are correct and others are not. We can go on with this - for me it works to respect the faith of the person, not assume that because I am a Christian and will celebrate Christmas, they will, too.

If you decide to respond back with a personal comment regarding me again I am going to ignore it. I try to be a kind and caring person towards everyone I meet. If you can't appreciate my approach to others, including my way of respecting their beliefs, that is your issue, not mine.

Some of my neighbors recently celebrated Dinali and they put lights out to decorate their front yards. These lights were not there for Christmas, but for Dinali. That was certainly a frame of reference for me in the comment above.

Correction - the holiday I mentioned above is Diwali. My apologies.

momof2: If you don't assume your beliefs to be correct, as compared to others, why hold them? Are you denying there is absolute truth?

Posted by dingus3 (anonymous) on December 20, 2008 at 4:28 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I do believe there is absolute truth. I do think my beliefs are correct but also cannot deny that there are millions of other people in this world who have a different faith. They are just as sure as I and other Christians that their beliefs are correct. Maybe there are different paths to get to the same place. I don't know, I am a mere mortal. I have chosen to be accepting of people of different faiths. I'm not sure why that is a bad thing......
