This weekend, search for local handmade Christmas gifts at Saturday's Holidays in Leesburg Arts and Crafts Show, or take in musical performances by the Loudoun Valley High School theatre and pianist Daryl Davis. Wrap up the weekend with a visit to the Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center to see a showing of the classic 1954 film, "White Christmas."
- Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
The Loudoun Valley High School chorus, drama, orchestra and band students are performing the musical melodrama "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The musical features the tragic life of Sweeney Todd, formerly known as Benjamin Barker, who returns to London after spending 15 years exiled in Australia on false charges. Barker soon learns that his wife poisoned herself after being raped by a local judge, and that his only child is in the judge's custody. Enraged, he vows revenge.
Admission is $10. Some scenes may not be suitable for young children.
Holidays in Leesburg Arts & Crafts Show
Handcrafted items by over 100 local and regional artists will be on sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p. at the Ida Lee Park and Recreation Center at 60 Ida Lee Drive NW, Leesburg.
Sale items include holiday wreaths, dolls, pottery, jewelry, floral designs, furniture, quilts and baskets. Vendors will be located in the gymnasium and lower level of the Recreation Center. For more information, call 703-777-1368.
Daryl Davis – Blues and Boogie Woogie
Pianist extraordinaire Daryl Davis will be performing blues, jazz and boogie-woogie at the Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center Saturday at 8 p.m., including music by Pinetop Smith, Louis Jorday, Duke Ellington, Glen Miller and Count Basie. Davis will provide a lessons on the influence of this music on the R&B sounds of the 50's and 60's. Learn more about Davis at www.daryldavis.com.
White Christmas
On Sunday at 2 p.m., the Franklin Park Performing and Visual Arts Center will be showing the movie White Christmas, a classic New England tale of two song-and-dance men who team up during the holiday season. Starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, the 1954 film includes Crosby's rendition of "White Christmas."
