A powerful storm that has dumped more than four inches of rain in parts of Loudoun County will move out of the region today.

Dulles International Airport picked up 2.9 inches of rain Sunday, then another 1.58 inches had fallen through Monday night, bringing the two-day total to 4.48 inches. Sunday was the rainiest day ever recorded during the month of April at Dulles.

The National Weather Service reported that Leesburg picked up 3.30 inches of rain in the 24 hours ending Monday morning.

The heaviest rain of the past two days came Monday morning, when 1.12 inches fell in two hours at Dulles.

The airport has picked up 5.95 inches of rain this month. Dulles has historically recorded an average of 3.22 inches of rain for the entire month of April, the weather service said.

The wettest April on record was in 1973, when 7.35 inches of rain fell.

Loudoun emergency management officials reported that some rural roads were closed during the early morning hours Monday. Hogback Mountain Road was closed near Route 15 because of high water, authorities said.

Calvin Meadows, a meteorological technician for the weather service station in Sterling, said Monday afternoon that the storm was almost over.

“It looks like about midnight it will have moved offshore and it'll be winding down,” he said. The weather service predicted a 30 percent chance of showers today with a high of 64 degrees.

Skies will become more calm and clear heading into Wednesday.

After dry and mostly sunny conditions Wednesday through Friday with highs in the mid-70s, another round of wet weather is possible Saturday and Sunday, forecasters said.

The average high on today's date is 68 degrees, according to weather service records.

The Washington Post contributed to this report.
