Potomac, Sterling Focus Of County Meetings

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will have four public input sessions for residents in the Potomac and Sterlingdistricts to discuss ideas for improving their communities.

Topics will include traffic, public transportation, community policing, neighborhood boundaries, the environment and other quality-of-life issues. The board will consider comments from the meetings during its community planning efforts.

The sessions are:

6-9 p.m. April 24 at River Bend Middle School, 46240 Algonkian Pkwy., Sterling.

1-4 p.m. May 3 at Park View High School, 400 W. Laurel Ave., Sterling.

9 a.m.-noon May 10 at Seneca Ridge Middle School, 98 Seneca Ridge Dr., Sterling.

6-9 p.m. May 14 at Park View High School, 400 West Laurel Ave., Sterling. Spanish translation services will be available at this session.

County to Celebrate Victims’ Rights Week

Starting Sunday, the Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and the county’s Victim/Witness Program will celebrate National Victims’ Rights Week in honor of crime victims.

Through April 19, the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office will distribute information on victims’ rights, as well as magnets, ribbons and bookmarks.

On April 18, the Victim/Witness Program will host an open house from 9 to 11 a.m. in the multipurpose room of the Loudoun County Courthouse, 18 E. Market St. Virginia Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell (R) will speak, and awards will be distributed to law enforcement officials and residents who have assisted crime victims.

Child Passenger Safety DVD Is Available

The Loudoun County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management has produced a DVD on child passenger safety with help from a $10,000 grant from Allstate Foundation.

“A Safer Journey,” which provides tips on car seat installation and use, seat belts and traveling safely, will be available at all Loudoun County Allstate agent offices beginning in June. The 44-minute instructional DVD also will be available to patients and students at the Birthing Inn at Inova Loudoun Hospital.

A Spanish version is also available.
