Workers at the Loudoun County Department of Family Services have been trained to provide counseling to residents facing the threat of home foreclosure, officials announced this week. They said the employees recently were certified in loss mitigation counseling.

Officials said residents should call the department for counseling at 703-777-0353 after exploring other options.

Antwaun Jackson, a housing intervention social worker with the department, said residents facing foreclosure should first call the loss mitigation department of their mortgage company.

“They may be able to help you with loan modification or a repayment and forbearance plan,” Jackson said.

Residents who are not behind in their payments but think they could be in trouble in the future should call 888-995-4673, a foreclosure hot line run by the Homeownership Preservation Foundation, county officials said.
