Thomas Jefferson place-kicker Evan Burch was lining up for a last-second field goal against No. 19 Stone Bridge, but the Bulldogs had long drained any drama out of its game against the Colonials.

Burch missed on a 47-yard attempt, and Stone Bridge walked off the field with a 49-0 victory.

The game was 35-0 at halftime, with Stone Bridge quarterback Patrick Thompson throwing four touchdown passes and running back Daniel Allen running in a score. Thompson finished the first half completing 9 of 12 passes for 176 yards.

Despite the disparity in points, Bulldogs Coach Mickey Thompson saw his team maintain focus in the second half.

"Talking about the second half, you're playing guys who haven't gotten much of an opportunity," Thompson said. "They're pretty excited, so the motivation in the second half was there and I though we played pretty well."

Stone Bridge (8-1, 6-0 AAA Liberty) dominated the second half on defense, allowing Thomas Jefferson only three possessions that accumulated less than 50 yards. Offensively, the Bulldogs controlled much of the clock by way of 29 rushing attempts in the half, leading the way to a pair touchdowns.

According to Coach Thompson, there is still much for his team to learn if they expect to go far in the postseason.

"You come into this game trying to work on a few things and get a little bit better," he said. "That's what we talked about when we came in this thing. It's about us trying to get in the playoffs and trying to get a bit better in a few things."

Next week, Stone Bridge faces W.T. Woodson, also of the AAA Liberty District. The game will be the Bulldogs' regular-season finale. A win would keep them undefeated in the district and would likely get them a first round bye as the top seed.

"They're a pretty good football team," Thompson said of Woodson. "They have a pretty good record. That's what we want, because we haven't lost a Liberty District game and we want to remain undefeated and get that first seed."
