At first glance, Broad Run's 27-9 victory over Loudoun County appears routine. The Spartans remained undefeated and the Raiders are still searching for their first win of the season.

But Broad Run (7-0, 4-0 AA Dulles) actually fell behind early and committed 14 penalties for 112 yards that kept Loudoun County in the game. And the Spartans led only 13-9 in the third quarter before pulling away late.

"It's hard to get an offense going when you put yourself in first and 20 or second and 30," Broad Run Coach Mike Burnett said. "It honestly slowed us down."

Broad Run's Breon Earl had 17 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown that put the Spartans up 13-6 just before halftime. Quarterback Cole Shain was 17 for 24 passing for 164 yards.

Loudoun County (0-7, 0-4) took the lead on a 31-yard pass from Kelly Reimers to Jack Lewis in the first quarter. The two-point conversion was no good. The Raiders also scored on a 24-yard field goal by Troy Krepich on their first possession of the second half.

"The played hard," Burnett said. "They were well coached and well prepared for the game."

But Reimers threw two interceptions in the second half, one of which set up Broad Run's final touchdown, a one-yard run by quarterback Chris Jessop.

Broad Run heads to Potomac Falls on Friday while Loudoun County heads home to face winless Freedom.
