The U.S. House on Wednesday voted to allocate $35 million to extend Metro to Dulles International Airport and into Loudoun County.
The Senate is also expected this week to approve the money, which is contained in a transportation bill that also must be signed by President Bush. The money would bring the federal contribution toward the $5.1 billion project to nearly $250 million, according to Rep. Frank R. Wolf (R-Va.).
“After years and years of talk, this project is on the brink of reality,” Wolf said in a statement.
The bill also would provide money to study a rapid bus system along Interstate 66, to extend Virginia Railway Express to Haymarket and to improve the Lee Highway corridor, among other projects.
