Letter From Mike George to Loudoun Officers

The following is the full text of a letter that was sent to the top officers of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 14, 2007

Open Letter to the Command Staff of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office:

You may have heard rumors that I would be replacing the entire command staff with personnel from the Fairfax County Police Department should the citizens of Loudoun County elect me as Sheriff in November.

Let me assure you that this is just a rumor. If I should become the next sheriff of Loudoun County the transition team I have in mind consists of three individuals. I am the only one who has any affiliation with the Fairfax County Police Department.

My vision is to “Unleash the Potential of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office”. I know that there are many good and qualified people already in place. My plan is to review resumes, work history, education, training and evaluations before making any decisions about who belongs where and why. As I see it the problem is not the command staff, but the sheriff himself. I believe he has not aggressively been working enough with the community or the board of supervisor to obtain the necessary resources to bring the Sheriff’s Office in line with the growing expectations of our community.

Please feel free to email me, from your home email, at georgeforsheriff@aol.com if you have any questions, concerns or comments. Working full time while running for office keeps me fairly busy, but I promise you that I will respond to your email.

Sincerely,

Mike George

Democratic Candidate for Sheriff

I must admit that I do not know Mike George or anything about him, but by the tone of this letter I would surmise that he is a self assured blowhard. I have met the current Sheriff several times and each time we have had in depth conversations about local needs. The current Sheriff has always made himself available to me - and I am officially a nobody. I am sure that he has done the same for other citizens in the county.

As for the needs of the county, I believe the sheriffs department does a great job considering the size and population of the county they have to police. It is too easy to blame personnel shortfalls (which may be the case)on lack of attention to problems, but it is the budget managers that decide how many deputies get hired.
And finally, we don't need a police state, we need citizens that obey the law.
