Questions & Answers

Q: What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

A: As the seat of one of the fastest-growing counties in the country, Leesburg has seen our quality of life changed. Increased population has unfortunately caused an increase of criminal activity and violence. This will continue to increase as surrounding county governments implement Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) programs. Leesburg must be proactive rather than reactive on this issue. Training a portion of the Leesburg police force in ICE would be a proactive approach to this looming issue. ICE training is not an anti-immigrant matter, but rather a crucial public safety issue.

Q: How would you rate your town’s relationship with Loudoun County officials and what, if anything, would you do to improve that relationship?

A: Leesburg's relationship with County officials is a constant area of improvement. We must always strive to improve communication with each other to best represent our constituents and our communities needs.

Q: Do you believe additional steps are needed to control the pace of development in your community?

A: Yes, local communities are best equipped to handle growth. Local government’s authority to control growth has been usurped and I will work to regain Leesburg’s authority to manage local growth issues.

Q: In March, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled the transportation package passed by lawmakers last year unconstitutional, endangering major projects across the region. What steps, if any, should the county, region and state take to address funding issues for transportation projects?

A: Delegate Joe May and State Senator Mark Herring are doing a great job to bring long overdue improvements to NVA’s transportation needs and I will assist them in any way possible.

Q: Why should voters elect you?

A: It has been an honor to serve on several Leesburg commissions and committees, and I look forward to continuing my service on the Town Council.
