Questions & Answers

Q: How would you rate your town’s relationship with Loudoun County officials and what, if anything, would you do to improve that relationship?

A: Leesburg’s relationship with Loudoun County is better now than before, and will improve even more with engagement and discussion about common concerns, such as annexation (or not), water rates, area planning, and large transportation projects.

Q: Do you believe additional steps are needed to control the pace of development in your community?

A: Leesburg officials should ensure the Town Plan encourages economic development that lowers taxes and increases our quality of life. It should discourage residential growth that causes sprawl, is environmentally unfriendly, clogs roads or raises taxes.

Q: In March, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled the transportation package passed by lawmakers last year unconstitutional, endangering major projects across the region. What steps, if any, should the county, region and state take to address funding issues for transportation projects?

A: The state caused this problem and the state needs to remedy it. Leesburg officials must urge the General Assembly to find another funding source for the transportation projects normally managed and controlled by VDOT.

Q: What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

A: The loss of transportation funding from the NVTA could be devastating. Leesburg must address this by urging the General Assembly to fund projects we desperately need, like the rest of Battlefield Parkway and the Sycolin Road improvements. Long term, I am concerned that Leesburg will lose its identity as a town and not stay separate and distinct from growth and sprawl around it. We need a vibrant, historic downtown and additional 'magnet' amenities, like a performing arts center, a Town Branch river walk and more specialty restaurants that will keep Leesburg a great place to visit and to live in.

Q: Why should voters elect you?

A: I serve on many Leesburg committees and have accomplished much through proven leadership, relevant experience, hard work and achieving compromise to get things done.
