Questions & Answers

Q: What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

A: In the short term, resolving the challenges to the town's joint land-management rights under our agreement with Loudoun County. For the longer term, we must find creative ways to meet the rising demands for and costs of services and infrastructure, while continuing to seek and find new sources of revenue, such as public-private partnerships, to lower the fiscal demands on taxpayers.

Q: How would you rate your town’s relationship with Loudoun County officials and what, if anything, would you do to improve that relationship?

A: The vast majority of interactions between elected and staff officials are professional and productive. There has been a learning curve for everyone over the past five years but facilities and services continue to be delivered.

Q: Do you believe additional steps are needed to control the pace of development in your community?

A: It is less about pace and more about associated infrastructure. We've taken positive steps through studies to focus our resources. We now need to connect neighborhoods, update facilities and address multi-modal transportation demands.

Q: In March, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled the transportation package passed by lawmakers last year unconstitutional, endangering major projects across the region. What steps, if any, should the county, region and state take to address funding issues for transportation projects?

A: Lower project costs equal lower funding demands. The greatest impact on funding of transportation projects for Purcellville is the administrative cost of the VDOT review process. Geared to large projects, reviews often triple local costs.

Q: Why should voters elect you?

A: My tireless devotion, stewardship and commitment to the town, its citizens and businesses, coupled with my passion for continuously improving delivery of services.
