Bloggers Take On Dead Wheatland Deal

Erica Garman at 3:12 p.m., May 28, 2009

Local blogs are buzzing with comments about yesterday's Board of Supervisors' vote that killed the Loudoun County School Board's plan to purchase 170 acres near Lovettsville for three future schools, and the events leading up to its demise.

In fact, over at the Too Conservative blog, Loudoun Insider doesn't mince his words, referring to the supervisors' votes as a "smack down" of the school board.

The Democratic blogger at The Operative Word writes that he was under the impression that the school board had lined up enough votes to kill the deal on Tuesday, before the vote went to the BoS.

"But two school board members switched teams at the last minute and voted to stick with the deal," he wrote, postulating that a certain school board member may be jockeying for the chairmanship position now held by Robert DuPree (Dulles).

John Stevens (Potomac) was one of three school board members who voted at Tuesday's school board meeting to cancel the Wheatland deal. Over at his Our Loudoun Schools blog, Stevens writes that he expects a short meeting will be scheduled on June 1, when the school board will formally withdraw from the contracts.
