Here are a few interesting Loudoun news items making the rounds:
Local Newspaper Purchased
Leesburg Today has new owners. The Loudoun Times Mirror reports that the bankrupted American Community Newspapers - which owns the local print and online news source - was purchased today by creditors who formed a limited liability company called American Community Newspapers II.
The $32 million sale, which includes Leesburg Today, Loudoun Business, Loudoun Magazine and all associated property, will be finalized next week, according to LTM.
I Want My DTV
Are you prepared for the DTV transition? By June 12, all full-power television stations will cease broadcasting in analog, which may interrupt your signal if you've got an older TV set.
To educate residents about the digital TV conversion, the Loudoun County Public Information Office and the FCC have scheduled a question/answer session from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Cascades Library. Click here for more information.
Potential Governor Stops in Leesburg
Gubernatorial candidate Brian Moran was in downtown Leesburg yesterday, making a final in-person plea for votes in Tuesday's Democratic primary.
Go to Leesburg Today to watch a video of Moran's stump speech. (Turn up the volume, though; the audio's not that great.)
A Good Weekend for Car Shopping
If you're in the market for a new car, you may want to consider a visit this weekend to the Pohanka Chrysler-Dodge and Dulles Motor Cars dealerships in Leesburg.
CNN profiled yesterday two Loudoun dealerships that are drastically marking down prices on inventory after the notice of their forced closings.
Ray O'Bryhim of Pohanka told the reporter: "As we get closer to June 9, we're going to have to do what we have to do to move these cars."
Bryhim said he can't legally sell the cars after June 9, and the bankrupted manufacturer won't take the vehicles back.
At Dulles Motor Cars, Hamid Saghafi told CNN they're "taking a beating" and are asking $10,000 less than invoice on certain models.
Hall of Famers Pitch Loudoun Baseball
WTOP-FM yesterday reported that two Hall of Fame baseball players - Brooks Robinson and Harmon Killebrew - have joined the group that is trying to bring an independent league baseball team to the Dulles Town Center Area (also known as the Kincora project).
Bob Farren, a principal of the investment group that wants the stadium located at the site, told WTOP-FM that they'd like to "have it up and running by 2011."
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will hear public comment on the project Monday evening.

Actually, we visited Dulles Motorcars the other day after reading the CNN article and were told that they sold one car at a deep discount for the publicity but are not making those deals for everyone. They plan on selling the cars back to the manufacturer. This is just the usual car dealer ploy to get people in the door.

Agreed-the "deals" are not better or worse than normal.
