Good news for AOL, Raytheon and Loudoun County.
AOL has signed a 10-year agreement with Raytheon, a large government contractor specializing in defense and homeland security, to lease three office buildings and a portion of a fourth, on the east side of the tech company's Dulles campus.
Keith Little, a Raytheon spokesman, told me this morning that the company will consolidate its Northern Virginia operations, which are currently located in Falls Church, Reston and Herndon, and will move more than 1,500 employees to the Dulles campus in spring 2010.
In the next 36 months, Little said, Raytheon plans to create about 100 new jobs at the Loudoun County site. The positions will likely be full-time, he added.
In a written statement released this morning, Raytheon senior vice president Tom Culligan said, “As one of the fastest-growing counties in the country, we are confident that the move to Loudoun County will support our efforts to attract and retain a highly skilled workforce in the Commonwealth."
Raytheon's move will also be good for AOL, too.
Officials with the tech company say this deal will not only reduce the company’s operations and maintenance costs, but will also bring in additional revenue. The company plans to move its remaining Dulles employees to buildings CC1, CC2 and Dulles Main of the AOL campus, which will be upgraded and feature improved employee facilities, including the fitness center. (We had earlier reported that they would be moved to one building, but that was an error on our part. Our apologies.)
“By bringing all our talent in Dulles together to the original buildings on campus, we can create a more vibrant workplace and recapture the energy that produced the company’s most successful years,” wrote AOL’s Dulles Campus general manager Ted Cahall, in an announcement e-mailed this morning to employees.
As you would expect, Loudoun County officials are happy with this news as well.
“We are very excited that Raytheon recognized the advantages of doing business in Loudoun and has selected our community as a hub for two of its major business units," said Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York, speaking on behalf of the board.
“We’re very confident Raytheon’s employees, who will now be working here, will find Loudoun County a great place to live and work."

Thank goodness York stepped in and saved this one. Good job Chairman York! Maybe you should be the chairman of the EDC; at the least we have you acting like it.
