UPDATE: After my initial posting went up, I received a press release from HCA, responding to the post.
In the release, Mark Foust, a spokesman for HCA Virginia, said the sign error was an innocuous mistake and that his organization is looking forward to presenting the hospital plans to the community on Oct 15.
“On Friday, the county informed us of its error and told us of its decision to change the hearing date,” he said in the statement.
ORIGINAL POST: The planning commission’s Sept. 25 public hearing regarding HCA’s rezoning request to build a hospital in Ashburn has been rescheduled for Oct. 15.
County officials decided a new date for the meeting was necessary after they were made aware that a sign on the proposed hospital property listed the wrong address for the Sept. 25 hearing.
The meeting’s location should have read Eagle Ridge Middle School, 42901 Waxpool Road, Ashburn, but instead read the Board of Supervisor’s Meeting Room, 1 Harrison Street, SE, Leesburg (see photo).
According to county code, a placard announcing a public hearing must be posted by the applicant on the discussed property. The sign must clearly state the time, location, date and a brief description of the public hearing event.
Rhonda Paice, the attorney who represents Concerned Citizens of Broadlands, a local organization that opposes the location of the proposed Broadlands Regional Medical Center, said a Broadlands resident informed her of the inaccuracy on Thursday.
Paice filed a complaint with county administrators Friday morning.
In her e-mail to officials, Paice wrote that she hopes the error was simply an oversight by the applicant, HCA Virginia, and not an effort to “disenfranchise concerned citizens from the public hearing process.”
She told Living In LoCo this morning that she’s not surprised by the inaccuracy.
“As I told the Board of Supervisors on Sept. 15, it’s obvious this project has received preferential treatment and has been rushed through the review process,” she said.
"This is what can happen," Paice said, referring to the inaccurate information about the location.
The Oct. 15 public hearing will start at 6 p.m. at Eagle Ridge Middle School in Ashburn. Those who previously signed up to speak at the Sept. 25 hearing do not need to sign up again for the rescheduled meeting. If you are interested in voicing your opinion at the Oct. 15 hearing, you may sign up in advance by calling the Planning Department at 703-777-0246, or registering in person right before the meeting begins.
And on the topic of community meetings…
Several members of Loudoun’s Board of Supervisors will hold an emergency public meeting to address the recent outbreak of violent criminal activity in and adjacent to Sterling.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Park View High School auditorium, and will be attended by Chairman Scott K. York (I-At Large), Vice Chairman Susan K. Buckley (D-Sugarland Run), Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling), Supervisor Andrea McGimsey (D-Potomac), Supervisor Stevens Miller (D-Dulles) and Sheriff Stephen O. Simpson.

There is no way that the Concerned Citizens of Broadlands should be called a "local organization". There needs to be a disclaimer about this organization, anytime they are referenced. Rhonda Paice is paid by Inova to represent that group, the PR manager is a coed from Texas, and the two most vocal supporters of the group are from out of state, one from Tennessee and one from California. Give me a break! This organization has ZERO credibility. As for Rhonda Paice's comments, what a load of crap. We'd have a hospital already if it wasn't for the shenanigans that are financially backed and orchestrated by Inova.
