Gov. Palin to Rally Loudoun Voters on Monday

Erica Garman at 11:29 a.m., October 23, 2008 (67 comments)

The McCain campaign announced yesterday that Republican vice presidential nominee, Gov. Sarah Palin, will bring the GOP’s “Road to Victory” rally to Leesburg on Monday at JR’s Festival Lakes on Fort Evans Road.

Tickets to the event are free to the public and can be picked up, starting today, at any Northern Virginia McCain/Palin office, including the Loudoun Regional Victory Headquarters at 46950 Community Plaza, Unit 201A in Sterling.

You can also access tickets and more information about the event online by clicking here.

Gates open at 7 a.m. on Monday, and the rally begins at 9 a.m.

In a statement, Glen Caroline, chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee, expressed his enthusiasm about Palin’s visit:

“We are excited and honored that Gov. Palin is coming to Loudoun County to lend her support for the great Get Out The Vote effort we have undertaken for our GOP candidates,” he said. “Loudoun Republicans and many Independents are energized and excited by the McCain/Palin ticket and are going to turn out in huge numbers at this event to show their support.”

This visit to Loudoun is certainly timely for the Republican ticket.

Earlier this week - before the Palin visit was announced - I spoke with Leesburg Town Councilman and Republican, Ken Reid, who told me, “A visit here [by McCain or Palin] would certainly help. McCain has to win Prince William and Loudoun by significant margins to offset votes in places like Fairfax.”

Stay tuned to LoudounExtra.com for coverage of Palin's rally. And keep sending your campaign photos to loudounextra at wpni dot com. (See our November 2008 Elections reader photo gallery here.)

Do you plan to attend Monday’s rally? What do you think it says about Loudoun when major players from both campaigns are swinging by here for a last-minute visit?

There's a new Marshall's down the road from JR's if she needs to pick up some new duds...oh wait; nevermind.

I guess some people have to resort to talking about her clothes because they are unfamiliar with the issues. This would be like me talking about race - neither matter - it's the issues.

I agree with DriversFriend- let's talk about the issues. How about we start with the issue of judgement?
.
Why would a campaign representing a candidate whose appeal is supposed to be "Main Street Joe the six-pack Plumber", spend $150,000 on clothes from high end stores during these trying economic times? Should Baby Trig be dressed up in $1500 worth of outfits bought by folks who thought they were donating to a political campaign? Should 7 year old Piper Palin be sporting new Louis Vuitton luggage while people are losing their jobs? (How do you even spend $150,000 on clothes, goodies and makeup?)
.
With these choices has McCain/Palin missed an opportunity to bring undecided voters on board and are these decisions symbolic of a campaign that has lost its way?
.
If DF would like it we can talk about Troopergate or Palin's horrible introduction to the national media next.

I am a God-fearing person that has voted Republican for the last 30 years. This election period has opened my eyes to the lowdown dirty tactics of the Republican Party. I am ashamed that a so-called Christian running for VP has become the tool of liars and slanderers seeking to divide this great nation. Sen. Obama has shown himself to be a man of integrity and great knowledge. I don't know what happened to the John McCain who once rebuked Pres. Bush for the same ungodly tactics that his team is using against Sen. Obama. And I don’t know what happened to the Sarah Palin who stood before her Assembly of God Church and professed to be a Christian. I wish they would have stuck to the immediate needs pressing virtually all Americans.

Let's see: Palin and the Republicans allegedly spent $150,000 on clothing and hair. We have NO IDEA what the Dem campaign spent. Because the media won't tell us. We do know, however, that Obama handed $800,000 to ACORN. And the media gave him a pass on that one too. Notice a pattern?

"Palin and the Republicans allegedly spent $150,000 on clothing and hair. We have NO IDEA what the Dem campaign spent.".............. Actually, we do know. The Democratic party has spent -0- on clothing for Michelle Obama. That is ZERO. They spent ZERO for Joe Biden's wife. They reported a hairstylist for Michelle at her appearances. Obama's suits cost $1500, which is puny for someone at his level - he bought them himself. Cindy McCain's outfits run into tens of thousands of dollars. Its rumored that several suits were special made at over $100,000 each. But then, the lady is worth over $100 million, 7 homes and 11 cars (just in her name), so that's chump change for her. John McCain wears pricy suits and $500 shoes. Yep, McCain/Palin truly understand us folks who shop at WalMart and Target. You betcha!

Apparently, they don't understand you, GenuineRisk. Perhaps if they had more of an Obamaesque message - one of vague promises of change, a populist "can't someone ELSE pay for it?" platform, and promises for billions of extra overseas aid - they would have your ever-so-coveted support.

Craig, you may want to look at www.FactCheck.org and www.politifact.org and get your ACORN story straight; the $800K was paid to a company called Citizens Services, who then subcontracted out work to ACORN (about $80,000 worth) for GOTV efforts. Nice try, though.

Posted by BigDaddyD (anonymous) on October 24, 2008 at 8:12 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Maybe they didn't spend any money for Michelle Obama's wardrobe (which is hihgly suspect). She clearly had a makeover, so who paid for that? We do know however that the Obama's have spent $300,000 in food during the campaign. What the heck are they eating?

To give you a feel for how the Obama's finance their wardrobes - Conservative blog TownHall.com investigated and their expenditures were about 2% of Sarah Palin's $150,000 shopping spree. They also purchased the clothes with their own money, not DNC funds from public donations. http://townhall.com/

The author isn't under any obligation, but blatant one-sided reporting is a little disturbing; it seems to me the media is attempting to shape the general mindset by failing to evenly "report".
.
Despite the obvious stilted media bias McCain is still right on Obama's heels, which speaks volumes about the strength of the average Republicans values, beliefs, and principles.
.
The Washington Compost is in perfect lock-step with the likes of NBC and MSNBC.

Call it what you like; it's obvious media bias.

Gee OTH thanks for posting that insightful article by Fox News (ahem) spinning Palin's wardrobe debacle. However, it does not argue against the fact that the RNC financed this shopping spree, no matter how Palin plans to divvy up all that fancy, fancy gear. It also acknowledges that the Democratic candidates actually pay for their own clothes. Imagine!

And by the way, the suits purchased by the RNC for Sarah Palin will be auctioned off when the election is over, and the proceeds will be donated to charity. I'll close with an old saying that I'm sure is dear to Obama and all of you lemmings: "To each according to his needs, from each according to his abilities..." Will that be the new American way? It will be if you Obama zombies get your way!

Posted by Irisintheeyes (anonymous) on October 24, 2008 at 8:03 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Senator Obama pledged to forgo public financing for his campaign and then breaks his pledge to the tune of millions of dollars and not a peep is heard from the left. Now people are upset about $150,000 in new clothing for Governor Palin that will be donated to charity once the campaign is over? Amazing.

Senator Obama is a millionaire. Governor Palin is not. Senator Obama has earned millions more than most Americans ever will, but gives less to charity (percentage-wise) than many Americans who earn below the fabled $250,000 mark. Still no peep from the left. Governor Palin shops at Saks or Neiman Marcus and there's an outcry. What a double-standard, and from the very people who claim to represent the interests of the poor and middle-class in this country.

Senator Obama figured out that there are two buttons you can push that will get people to do just about anything you'd want them to do, including vote. Those two buttons are "greed" and "jealousy". Push those two buttons, and you can just about win an election.

The Obama event was pretty amazing. I doubt that the invitation only Palin event on Monday will be either as big or noteworthy as the Obama event.

The McCain/Palin people don't have the guts to open it up to the public for fear of what the real public thinks of their ticket and platform. Friends only. Not a very effective way of reaching out for new support.

Posted by RhumbLine (anonymous) on October 24, 2008 at 9:13 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Good News Rhumbline!! The Palin event, like all McCain events asks only for an RSVP, but in reality they never even ask for the PDF printed tickets when you get there. They Welcome everyone!

Either you have been misled, or you are purposely trying to paint the Republicans as trying to exclude (which is a patently false).
.
Now that you have been made aware that it's not exclusive, do you have the sack to show up?

Just like all of the Bush events of the last 8 years - it is invitation only.

Just like true Republican events it will be controlled.

Just like all Republican events I will not be there for fear of not being able to stomach such a large gathering of angry morons who put political party before country.

Talking tough has nothing to do with how much "sack" someone has - as evidenced by the rough republican talk with no basis in reality or intent to back it up.

Have fun with the other lying misguided losers - sack boy.

BTW - OhTheHumanity - based on your tone you must have been the guy we saw with the mccain/palin sign standing in front of Ida Lee Park yelling insults. At first we felt sorry for you because we thought you were retarded then we heard the nastiness of your comments and realized that instead of being retarded you were actually just a typical republican. That is self induced retardation and hard to feel empathy for that - particularly in this time where USA should be first not political party.

Oh by the way - I read and heard about the invite only aspect of the palin ralley the same places I read and heard that only 10,000 people showed up to the Obama event.

Invite only event, only freindlies, no protesters allowed. If you are not in 'lock step' with the local GOP, dont bother showing ups - again as evidenced by the spouting off of some of the angry dullard here on this blog.

Also unlike the Obama event the palin/exxon mobil/walmart pep rally is being held on private property so that the GOP goons can control who gets in. Wait until Monday - you will see.

OTH - your comments are exactly why this 2 decade R voter, will vote blue this year. Our country is begging for change.

I would consider myself a moderate R and wished that McCain had picked (Ridge, Crist etc) any body but her. Palin has become a CLEAR liability to the once thriving GOP base, moreover the GOP/RNC has divided a nation, attempted to divide the REAL virginia. She is beyond unqualified, as evident of her Policy speech yesterday about Special Needs Children. Making bitchy/uneducated remarks about wasting money on fruit fly research "in Paris France, I kid you not", the same researched that proved insightful information about autism.

Palin has already thrown in the towel for 2008 (Ethanol remarks during stump speech in IA today) and is only looking out for her own 2012 bid. Sad this is, if not for McCain most of American would know nothing about her.

So let her come to the "not real Virginia" in her fancy Valentino suit and prove just how inept she is.

Don't you dare sit here and type about "no protesters allowed" because it's comical coming from the same bunch that were so intolerant of another opinion, that I actually was approached and interviewed by BBC on how intolerant of the First Amendment the Democrat's Rally turned out to be.
Erica...look girl, we have had our moments, but I want to be clear here. This "after" rush hour rally is in a location that has allowances for NUMEROUS drive-arounds, and was scheduled to immediately follow the bulk of the traffic mass that keeps it from interfering with commutes. Senator Obama's route was the Greenway, and it was shut down a half hour before the beginning of 5:00 rush hour traffic, and the site location was adjacent to Downtown Leesburg, and closed almost any access to North Rt. 15 before and after the event. Anyone attempting to get to Maryland or Lucketts was out of luck, short of getting turned around and accessing Rt.7's increased volume, and I hear they were out there for awhile, too.

Where was this -if it was right in front of Ida Lee you are doing the typical republican thing - lying about it. I was there - there were no such confrontations. The 10 - 12 mccain/palin protesters stood their ground while THOUSANDS walked by and at most only shouted back and or gave finger gestures. Most people who walked by just sort of shook their head and snickered becuase the sight was so pathetic and the taunts being shouted were so infantile.

The poor fiscal stewardship of our banking system by the Republican party led to the socialistic move of the fed buying into the banks. Welfare mommies and liberals are not responsible for that - it was the republican controlled senate of 2000 that did it. In fact it was John McCains financial/econ advisor Phil Gramm of Texas who sponsored the legislation that created the Credit Default Swap.

So if you want more of the same - vote mccain.

Gee what a surprise, the $150,000 figure was MADE UP... in fact less than 1/3 of that amount was spent, and clothing was showed to Gov Palin, and many of the items were returned. She did not have a wardrobe, she has not been doing this for the last two years (like Michelle and Obie) and she needed someone to shop for her...
and the clothes will be donated to charity... you Obama folks must really be worried about her to go to such extremes to trash her... and I can see why, she is much more authentic than Barry, and much more charismatic...

Actually RhumbLine...it all started under Jimmy Carter (ver. 1.0) in a little diddy called the Community Reinvestment Act. Things really picked up under Billy Clinton (also ver. 1.0) when he widened the ramifications of giving everyone a house (damn that they couldn't pay for it...we'll worry about that later)and then Janet Reno and Jamie Gorelick brought the Justice Dept. (who I was employed by at the time) to bear on those banks that wouldn't comply.
Around 2006, John McCain sounded the siren and called it a disaster ready to happen.
Then Barney Frank( male escort service run out of his DC apartment), Chris Dodd (number one in contributions from Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, Maxine Waters and a whole host of other democrats voted NOT to regulate ...against McCain's wishes. Worst part? This is all documented on Youtube/CSPAN clips all over the internet. Democrats can never get rid of the evidence until they get Al Gore to turn the damned web off.
