Executives with HCA Virginia announced in a press conference from Broadlands this afternoon that their organization will be partnering with Children's National Medical Center to meet the healthcare needs of newborns, infants, children and teens in Loudoun County.

Children's National Medical Center is widely known in the region for its specialized pediatric care, and it is consistently ranked among the top children's hospitals in the country.

"We are here to celebrate the arrival of a new and unique partnership in Loudoun County," said Bill Adams, CEO of Reston Hospital, an HCA Virginia facility.
Officials say the partnership will bring a full-service, top-of-the-line, pediatric emergency department to the proposed Broadlands Regional Medical Center, in addition to outpatient clinics and access to pediatric specialists for routine and chronic care. With this partnership, CNMC administrators and physicians will aide in the design and preparation of the pediatric offerings at BRMC.

"We want to make quality care accessible to families close to their home," added CNMC chief medical officer Peter Holbrook.

Tracey White, spokeswoman for HCA Virginia said that with the partnership, BRMC will provide the physical location, and CNMC, in turn, will offer the services.

No financials with the deal have been worked out yet, said White.

White anticipates that if the land zoning of Broadlands Regional Medical Center is approved by the Board of Supervisors later this year, construction of the hospital could be completed in two years.

In May 2006, Inova Loudoun Hospital opened the first pediatric emergency department in Loudoun to better serve the county's growing population.

One source today said that from 2000 to 2006, those in Loudoun County aged 19 or younger grew by almost 50 percent.

This is wonderful news. And certainly a huge plus for the people of Loudoun County. Anytime an opportunity like this comes along to provide the best health care available in the nation, especially to our children, we are incredibly lucky.

This will indeed make a difference for our children and grandchildren.

Thank you HCA for making this happen and thank you Children's Medical Center for picking Loudoun as the place to extend your services. Talk about a win/win.

I'm glad that they made clear that the partnership applies at either the Broadlands or Stone Spring site on Route 50.
