Inova Loudoun Hospital has donated $20,000 to the Concerned Citizens of Broadlands organization to support their opposition of the Broadlands Regional Medical Center, which HCA wants to build adjacent to the residential community.
"Inova Loudoun Hospital opposes [the hospital] because it undermines the County's Comprehensive Plan of broad geographic access for all citizens to health care services," said Susan Carroll, ILH's chief operating officer, in a statement released earlier today.
"When the Concerned Citizens of Broadlands asked us for support, we were happy to help. It is unfortunate that a goliath like HCA, a Tennessee-based-for-profit company owned by Wall Street investors, forces ordinary citizens into a costly defense of their homes through pursuit of an unwelcomed upzoning that ultimately harms the long-term County Plan for health care for all Loudoun citizens."
To see the complete press release, click here.
If you haven't been following this debate, HCA has proposed to build BRMC, a full-service hospital, on 58 acres less than five miles from the existing Inova Loudoun Hospital, which is currently the only one in the county.
Proponents say competition is healthy and that another hospital is needed in Loudoun's population epicenter.
"BRMC will improve access to care for countless Loudoun residents," said Mark Foust, the HCA Virginia spokesman. "It is located in a densely populated area that is the most appropriate site for county residents. We look forward to being part of the solution for Loudoun's healthcare needs today and tomorrow."
Those opposed to the BRMC site say a hospital would better serve the growing community in the Dulles South area of the county.
Both HCA and Inova have rolled out their marketing machines to sway public opinion and county supervisors, who will be voting on HCA's zoning application around the end of the year. In its ads, ILH displays charts and bar graphs whereas HCA's marketing has a "Can't we all just get along?" message.
Most members of CCB live close to the proposed hospital and fear that a hospital will bring noise, traffic, and undesirables to their quiet neighborhood. Members of CCB are not required to pay any fees to be associated with the group.
Rhonda Paice, a Leesburg attorney, represents CCB and has denied in the past being paid by Inova Loudoun Hospital.

Unbelievable! Does Inova really expect us to believe this malarkey? My bet is they've burned through that much cash already on Rhonda Paice, and the other paid "volunteer". What a ruse.

Inova's PR budget seems to be endless, considering their ubiquitous full-page ads, not to mention the weekly mailers with their specious arguments. They must have spent at least $250K (with more to come)already. This non-profit has very deep pockets indeed! It reminds one of the nasty developer ads of 2 yrs ago that were equally bogus and absurd. Like them, these blanket mailings and ads are now having the same unintended effect - residents are fed up with their incessant outrageous propaganda. Although there is a tel # to opt out of further mailings, requests are ignored and they just keep coming. End result? Inova has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. No one I know ever uses Inova Hosp. & prefer Reston instead. Considering the pop. of this area, HCA would be a welcome addition. I'd add that the attitude and actions of the Broadlands NIMBYS are ludicrous and are the laughing stock of the community!

Glenn, here's some fuel for the (rekindled) fire:
Is it possible that the incessant harping of York's Posse that the CCB were financially assisted by Inova finally make Inova say "why not help them out if they ask"?
Did they ask? Press release and article doesn't really say.
I've heard a rumor down here--note: RUMOR--that Inova has offered to assist with legal services for the "group" that filed paperwork on the county-owned property at Gum Spring Rd. (one of the half-dozen organized, chaired by, and consisting primarily of the At Large rep to Parks and Rec and her e-mail lists), so they can become a 501(c)3 for real, and try to get someone to give them the property.
This seems pretty amazing to me if true, since the multi-group/county position woman is the only person I've seen protesting a hospital on Rte 50 to the BoS, saying "we" don't need a hospital. ("We" also need no schools, but "we" do need all day kindergarten at one of the smallest and most expensive schools in the county, and "we" also need a private rec center.)
Truly, we ALL live in LoCoLand.
Welcome, starburst. "Laughing stock of the community"?
Looks like you have a bit of the Imperial "WE" going there your self!

What a sham!!!!
I'll bet there is not a SINGLE Broadlands resident that has ponied up ONE CENT for this group!!!
Think about it.....if Broadlands residents were willing to come up with the significant amount of cash to hire the attorney, why on earth would they ALL be hiding in anonymity????
If it was my hard earned dollars paying for it, I would make sure that everyone knew who I was and that I supported it.
I do believe they have Broadlands residents signed up as being "represented." After all, an Inova employee offered it up to anyone who would respond to an email.

Lee-
It's time to take your medicine.
I simply point out FACTS. The statistics and statements in my letter are verifiable FACTS that anyone, even you, can look up.
Inova's slimy lies and tactics to keep out additional healthcare in this county is SICKENING and I , a little citizen, will call them out on it as I see fit.
You are an obvious paid hatchet man for Inova who is probably waiting for some design contract for the new hospital, but won't get it until BRMC is defeated. Hmmmmmmmmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Fess up, admit it!!!! It can be the only explanation for your obsession and outrageousness.
You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to keep more healthcare out of this county. God only knows your real motivation.
Again, please do a litle research and show me where ONE THING I said isn't a FACT.
I won't hold my breath waiting.

Lee-
Your obsession with this issue runs so deep you are blinded by it.
I have trashed NO ONE. I leave that up to you, as you have done a few posts ago. You attack anyone that has a bad thing to say about Inova. All I do is point out Inova's ridiculousness in trying to keep out health care, choice, and competition.
I have met with HCA officials AND Inova officials. You see, unlike you, I like to have some facts before I speak or write. You can be proud that you spend no more effort looking into something than spouting from your easy chair....and your lack of knowledge shows.
.
You accuse me of having "inside information", yet the same information is available to all.
In fact, the Post wouldn't print my letter until they were able to verify the information on their own, which they did.
.
Maybe HCA will decide to add adult mental health services at BRMC. I can think of what to name that wing!!

Lee, if you would ACTUALLY read the so called negative Inova posts, those especially of Cliff's. You would see that Cliff RESPONDS to Inova ads and claims. He is not trashing Inova but pointing out the inadequacies and mis-truths they are representing.
.
You are the one coming across as obsessed, constantly pointing out that Cliff is the HOA president (LIKE IT MATTERS, let it go!).
.
And please, do you REALLY think that one man, even though he may be (sarcasm alert) the almighty Broadlands HOA President can really do much harm to a LARGE company like Inova?
.
Please take Dalyns advice and stay out of this. PLEASE!

Lee, not that there is a hope, you could consider responding to the issues and facts Cliff has raised. Anything else is petty.
.
Barbara, very interesting comment(s). I have not heard the rumors you mention. Nothing surprises me anymore, things truly are LoCo. Also, I agree with your thoughts.

Glenn, see today's print edition Loudoun extra?
Heck, see it here on extra.com:
http://loudounextra.washingtonpost.com/n...
Seems it has been semi-confirmed.
I'd like to see direct quotes from builders offering to do the reno at cost.

Lee, to answer some of your questions, although I have discussed this in length many times.
I am a strong supporter of BRMC because I fully believe Loudoun needs another hospital, I think the chosen site is better than most of the alternatives for that property, and this is the ONLY hospital that has a chance to built any time in the near future. It is the only site with an approved COPN from the state.
.
So, I will continue to do what I, an average citizen, can do to support getting more medical care facilities for my family.
.
Yes, I am and will continue to be a strong supporter for this project and will voice my opinion as I see fit.
.
I do communicate with HCA more often than Inova, but I DO NOT get any direction or "approval" from HCA about my letters to newspapers. You see, HCA is the one trying to build a new hospital and Inova is the one trying to stop it.
.
If it wasn't for the meddling and political influence of Loudoun Hospital, BRMC would have been completed and opened years ago.
.
Your argument about land use issues is the only legitimate point you bring up. Comparing me to James Carville in a nonsensical rant really isn't going to endear your point of view to many.

Cliff, thank you for your reasonable comments. Related to your observations about the selected site.
.
It is a good site for a hospital. We have three major east west corridors in Loudoun. Each should have a hospital on it. We have one on 7 now, will soon have BRMC on the Greenway, and in the future someone will build a hospital on Route 50.
.
It amazes me when people think BRMC bought this hospital site with the idea that it wasn't a good, efficient, approvable and marketable location. HCA put their money where their mouth is. They have a lot more experience building hospitals than anyone on this blog, and I'd say they spent a lot of time considering the location. To include laying down a big chunk of cash for it.

It IS a bit similar to the Fields Farm issue--in that county politicos have a predetermined siting for a public service that fits with their growth plans, and must therefore be implemented, planning docs and zoning be damned.
Fields Farm was purchased for well-over list price by the 99 BoS, in closed door meetings with the Vice Chair acting as the real estate agent. Current "smart" growth pols must see public uses develop on that property to justify the purchase, which was truly as shady as they come.
Purcellville has a legitimate concern in that over 400 ADUs are approved in the same quad of the JLMA, with water and sewer coming from the town as soon as they are extended there.
That quad was PHASE IV of the growth plan, because gravity only runs the sewer south of town, causing a much greater expenditure to the north for utilities. But we can't have P-ville grow to the south, can we? Too much holy ground down that way.
Both the Shellhorn and Fields tracts were purchased with "smart" growth in mind, to force growth in the direction desired by forcing the utilities.
Both have contentious issues to this day, with Woodgrove HS and Bolen Park. The utilities are a wonderful controlling mechanism for the two largest towns in the County.
Unfortunately for the taxpayers of western Loudoun, their kids are grossly suffering the total lack of planning for services there, and with every alternative site the subject of equally huge controversy, there is little relief in sight.
It all goes back to some of the same bogus philosophy of "smart" growth: "Loudoun is a sleepy rural farming community of pristine prime farmland"--according to the latest county mega$$$$ brochure, prime soil only accounts for 19% of the total county, but I digress...
The Greenway is the planned corridor for urbanization in Loudoun, hence, all services "must" go there. Remember, the philosophy of "smart" growth is that the suburbs are a maleficent anomaly--there is "rural" and (now "New") urban, and the rest is "unsustainable". Like Route 50 is the driveway to a lot of other holy ground, and must therefore be squelched for any service.
The use of public facilities to channel and control growth is what its all about.
Meanwhile, kids are in an untenable situation out west for schools, and most of the county will STILL go elsewhere for healthcare even after the "regional" hospital is placed near the existing one.
And the government will keep taking our taxes, and keep giving breaks to the folks who support the fantasy.

I live within a mile of the hospital site. I wonder how far away Lee is from the site?
.
Apparently Lee thinks proximity increases the value of one's opinion. Another bizarre concept.
