The South Riding community is reeling over the death of Peter Vold, the 19-year-old whose body was discovered early Wednesday morning in the parking lot of Little River Elementary School.

This morning, I spoke with a few students in South Riding and one woman who knew Peter, all of whom wished to remain anonymous.
Word in the neighborhood is that Vold died from alcohol poisoning. The teens I spoke with said they thought that Vold had attended a neighborhood party earlier Tuesday night where alcohol was available, though they were not in attendance themselves.
Kraig Troxell, public information officer for the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, said that he couldn't comment on Vold’s cause of death because the Fairfax medical examiner’s office has not yet released a report. He would not comment on any other details, except to say that the case is still under investigation.
The teens also said they heard that Vold was taken to the school parking lot and left by two boys; it was unclear whether or not these boys were friends of Vold's. One Freedom High School senior I spoke with, who is graduating this evening and was in classes with Vold, said he'd heard that the security cameras at Little River captured the boys leaving Vold at the scene and that those two teens had been arrested.
Troxell said he is not aware of any arrests in connection to this death.
The teens all described Vold as a nice, funny kid. They said he had recently dropped out of high school. One teen said that he believed that had Vold continued his education, he would have graduated from FHS this evening.
Wayde Byard, the public information officer for Loudoun County Public Schools, confirmed that Vold had dropped out in April but said he couldn't comment about the circumstances surrounding his death.
One woman I spoke with said her son used to be a good friend of Vold's, and that he had been having some problems lately and was hanging out with a "bad crowd."
I asked about the party that it's rumored Vold was at Tuesday night and was told the party did take place at a South Riding home. One girl said, "We all know where it was, but no one is saying."
When I asked if the parents were home during the party, the girl, who is graduating from FHS tonight, hesitated.
"Parents sometimes provide the alcohol at these parties," she said. "That's what happens in South Riding - it is high school graduation, after all."

If you have to put "speculate" in the headline itself, it's not news and shouldn't be here. This thing is entirely hearsay aside from the character witnesses and is a miscarriage of "journalism."
I have no connection to the story but I try to defend journalism whenever necessary.

This is a "blog" not a front page. Speculation is what makes blogs great to read- events as viewed from the writer's enounters- in this case, a writer who was able to get in touch with various sources who are hesitant to spill the beans. Erica, keep it up!

No. That crap may fly on blogger or typepad or something but this is still a publication of The Washington Post, in case you forgot.

Yes, agreed, and no I haven't forgot. But it IS under the BLOG section. You forgot to look at the header.
Enjoy your reading and stop complaining. I'm happy to get snippits of local events, and am smart enough to keep point of view, individual opinions, writing styles, and type of publication in mind.
