Zigzags and Other Waxpool Road Tricks

Better Cell Coverage vs. Rural Beauty

If a monopine is erected in rural LoCo, will anyone see it? Many residents in western Loudoun are concerned about the visual and economic impact these towers, or monopoles, will have on their adjacent properties and the rural countryside. Some dissidents say cellular reception is fine and expanded coverage isn’t needed, while others say service needs to be improved for safety and tele-working reasons. Read full entry and discussion »

Free Clinic Meets Needs of Uninsured

The Loudoun Free Clinic sees about 600 uninsured adults who, like Sonia, have no health insurance and whose incomes are 200 percent of the federal poverty level or below (equal to $41,300 a year for a family of four). A 41-year-old single mother of two, Sonia first walked into the Loudoun Free Clinic this past September knowing something was wrong. Read full entry and discussion »

At $60,000, This Green Costs Some Green

With Metro Plans Possibly Derailed, What Now?

The silver line to LoCo is in jeopardy. Everyone I’ve spoken with about the Metro deal going south is concerned, to say the least. The words "disappointed" and "angry" are often used. Some are convinced that the "powers that be" see the proposed Metro extension as simply a commuter's alternative to driving -- not a necessity. Read full entry and discussion »
