The National Conference Center mascot, Eco-Man, was out clearing brush and picking up trash in and around the 110 acres of the Lansdowne facility today in celebration of Earth Day.
“I had my cape and hat on earlier, but they got in the way,” said Eco-Man, a.k.a. Tim Fletcher, director of operations at NCC.
About 40 NCC managers and employees were out from 9 a.m. to noon today doing their part to celebrate Earth Day with Eco-Man.
Kurt Krause, NCC’s general manager, was helping with the litter pick-up as well this morning. “Sustainability is a huge initiative for Aramark, our employer. This is our third year of doing this clean-up and this morning we’ve gotten the most volunteers ever,” he said.
If you can’t get out today to clean up Mother Earth like the folks at NCC, perhaps you can commemorate Earth Day this evening.

Sustainable Loudoun is hosting an Earth Day celebration at 7 p.m. in Leesburg. The event will feature a panel of speakers including Tom Whipple, who will discuss peak oil and Alan Hansen, who will talk about the 2030 Challenge. There will also be an award ceremony and a reception to honor the 2008 winners of the Energy and Environmental Sustainability Awards at this year’s
LCPS science fair.
This event is free and open to the public. Click here for more information and directions.
