Starting next week, the Loudoun County Public Library expects to launch a new online service called "MyLibraryDV." This is a video-on-demand service created by Recorded Books and in partnership with the library. You will be able to access hundreds of hours of DVD-quality programs that include cooking, travel, and health topics. Remember how the $31.4 million bond for the Broadlands Recreation center got voted down in November? Well, there is a bit of good news coming for local athletes. Play to Win, a private company, is planning to build a sports complex on the north end of Belmont Ridge Road, near Route 7. The company has entered in a contract to purchase 40 acres that abut Goose Creek and includes a 300-foot undistrubed buffer next to the creek. The plans for the facilty show a 230,000 square-foot main building and six outdoor fields (four artificial turf and two natural grass) for soccer, softball, baseball, and lacrosse. This is big news for the local restaurant business and tasty news for barbeque lovers: Loudoun's famous Carolina Brothers Pit Barbeque on Ashburn Road will soon open its own restaurant. Owners Danny and Mary Anne Hurdle have had their catering business here for 25 years and bought the Partlow Bros. store next to the W&OD Trail two years ago. Read full entry and discussion »
A group of nearly 20 Loudoun parents who have children with severe and life-threatening allergies, met Monday night at the Ashubrn Library and included a conversation with school board member John Stevens (Potomac district). Many of the children are pre-school and elementary age, so the parents have questions about how they can work with the county school system to make sure their kids are safe while at school. Stevens explained that the sytsem now is determined by how each principal runs his or her school, but they are looking at ways to focus on this as a county-wide issue. Update: The Holland's dog Tank was found this morning. He had been hit by a car on the Greenway. Neighbors are expressing their condolences on the Broadlandshoa.org site. Linda and Mike Holland have been searching for their 2-year old dog, Tank, since Monday, November 26 when he ran out the front door of their Broadlands home. They have distributed more than 700 flyers and are still hoping for his safe return. Read full entry and discussion »
