NVTA Refunds, School Budget

NVTA Refunds
Loudoun Traffic points out a letter to the editor of The Examiner in which the writer addresses the process of refunding the taxes collected by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority. "The NVTA’s arrogance in collecting the taxes and their incompetence in refunding them are just two more reasons to shut down the unelected authority for good," wrote Kristina Rasmussen of Alexandria.

Blogger Danilo over at Loudoun Stats has posted some information about how to obtain a refund from the NVTA.

School Budget and Teacher Raises
School board member and blogger John Stevens has a post explaining how the funds from the Board of Supervisors are allocated and how teachers' salaries are affected. He will be holding a rally in support of "A Penny for a Pay Raise" outside the government center at 5:30 p.m. today.

Blogger Loudoun Insider dishes up some thoughts on the other side of the spectrum, writing: "Making this all about pay raises and laying blame at the BOS, while pushing for worthless electronic whiteboards, is hysteria-mongering."

Paradox13VA over at Leesburg Tomorrow also has some thoughts on the FY09 budget and which homeowners will actually see a tax rate increase. "… At the end of the day, the taxpayers who will actually pay more taxes are those who actually made money in real estate in a down market. These property owners will come out ahead on their real estate investments in spite of the most difficult housing crisis in modern memory and marginally higher taxes," he wrote.
