Weekend Entertainment
If you're looking for something to do this weekend, there are plenty of events going on in Loudoun to keep you entertained.
Friday, check out Chili and Spud Night at the Philomont Fire Department, or, if you feel like braving the weather, check out Leesburg's First Friday. There's also the Purcellville Teen Center or Loudoun Lyric Opera's performance of "Die Fledermaus."
Both Friday and Saturday nights, Belmont Ridge Middle School students will be performing "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Celebrate Groundhog Day at Claude Moore Park by going on a wildlife walk, or in the evening at the Groundhog Day Concert at the Carver Center. Saturday afternoon, check out the opening ceremony for the Franklin Park Performing & Visual Arts Center.
Sunday, check out the James Bland Music Scholarship Competition in Potomac Falls, or donate blood at the Inova Blood Drive at Dulles Town Center.
Real Estate Assessments
Real estate bloggers Danilo and Tony have posted some comments on the county assessor's announcement Thursday that real estate assessments are to be mailed next week. "That statement and the recently opened office makes me wonder... We'll see what property owners think and how they react when they get their assessments in the next week or two," they wrote.
Race for Purcellville Mayor
Blogger ParadoxVA13 over at Leesburg Tomorrow has some thoughts on Karl Phillips' announcement that he is joining the race for Purcellville mayor. "Karl spoke to the LCDC this week about his candidacy. The remarkable thing was how this Democrat came before fellow Democrats and explained that he would be campaigning as hard for his allied Republicans as he would for himself," he wrote. "The issue of Mayor Lazaro's tilting at the high school windmill is more important than partisanship to Karl Phillips."
School Board, Board of Supervisors Meeting
Local school board member and blogger John Stevens has posted his notes from the first joint-committee meeting of the School Board and Board of Supervisors. "A public hearing format was established. Speakers will be heard at the beginning of each meeting for a maximum of three minutes, with a 15-minute time limit," he wrote.
Leesburg House Fire
Firefighter and blogger Brian has an update about his recent activities, including helping to put out a house fire in Leesburg. "I crawled into my bunk and called my parents to see how they were doing … A minute or two later the bells rang for a house fire on Loudoun Street," he wrote. "The truck was on scene first with me, Trimpey, BDQ and JC on the engine right behind the truck."
