Wegmans WiFi Woes
Blogger LoCo Loca hates nothing more than setting up her laptop at Wegmans and learning that the wireless Internet connection won't work. "My suggestion: Post a sign with the Help Desk/Service Center phone number (I eventually called Google 411), educate your Service Center employees about your system, and make your tech support person available to fix the problem," she wrote. "…As soon as Starbucks gets their free Wi-Fi up and running I’m going to work there instead."
Streetlights at Algonkian and Countryside
Blogger Ric James over at HoodaThunk? writes that new streetlights have been installed at the intersection of Algonkian Parkway and Countryside Boulevard – the site of two pedestrian deaths. "I’m hopeful they’ll do more than serve as ornamental lighting but the size, height, and position of these lights isn’t confidence-inspiring. What is needed is illumination into the street, not on the corner of the road," he wrote.
Stone Bridge, Heritage, Valley to Remain in Districts
Dave Scarangella over at DullesDistrict.com writes about the recent decisions by the Virginia High School League Redistricting and Reclassification Committee relating to appeals from area high schools. "Many of the Northern Region schools have lengthy histories in Virginia, and the notion that a school that didn’t exist prior to the year 2000 is now a gateway to the state playoffs has to be irksome. Since Stone Bridge joined the Liberty, the rest of the league has been playing for second place, as the Bulldogs have won all three years. They’ve won the Northern Region twice in the last three years, and made the finals all three. Last year, they won the state title," he wrote. "If you can’t beat ‘em, move ‘em to another region."
Special Ed in Loudoun Schools
School board member and blogger John Stevens points to an article on LoudounExtra.com when he writes about how special education in Loudoun schools could be impacted by the recently approved budget. "Among the issues that concern my fellow parents, special education strikes a particularly deep nerve. Two of the cuts to the originally proposed LCPS budget this year were for positions dealing directly with special education, an Eligibility Coordinator and a Diagnostician. This will have an impact on many students and parents," he wrote.
