LoudounExtra.com, The Washington Post's latest online media endeavor, officially launched today. The New York Times had this story previewing today's launch. CNET picked up the story, too. Here's a link to Frank Ahrens' story in today's Washington Post, and here is a link to washingtonpost.com's Post I.T. blog.

Paul R. La Monica at CNNMoney.com had these thoughts about the site and some comments about hyperlocal journalism in general. Forbes had a story about the launch of the site with a nice overview of many of the features we offer and also those we are planning to roll out in the near future. Here is a link to the San Francisco Chronicle, and here's one to The Financial Times.

The media blogosphere is abuzz with comments about LoudounExtra.com. Scott Karp, a local media blogger over at Publishing 2.0 had a very insightful take on the site, and offered up some constructive criticism on his blog. Here is what Poynter had to say about our public relations department. There was also this note on paidContent.org. Here is a story from Editor & Publisher by Pauline Millard. Here's the link to Media Bistro's FishbowlDC post. MiniMediaGuy had this to say. Loudoun Insider also took notice of the site launch today. There was also a brief note about the site launch on Jim Romenesko's blog. The Editors Weblog has this story via The New York Times and Media Bistro.

Local bloggers Danilo Bogdanovic and Tony Arko mentioned the site on their Loudoun Stats blog. Blogger Loudoun Talk seemed excited about the site.

If you have questions about the site, check out what Rob Curley, Vice President of Product Development at Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive, has to say in this welcome note to readers. We would love to hear what you think of it so far, and hope you continue to check back with us regularly as we roll out new features.

That's a lot of patting yourself on the back. Meanwhile, putting blog comments behind the registration wall and creating polls that you can't vote in doesn't exactly seem like progress.
