Freedom High School announced Friday morning that head varsity baseball coach Chris Bourassa is stepping down after four years at the helm of the program. Bourassa was the only coach in the four-year history of the program.
Here's the press release from Freedom A.D. Rusty Lowery:
"Freedom High School regretfully announces the resignation of Chris Bourassa from the Head Varsity Baseball coaching position. He steps down to pursue new opportunities with his business. Coach Bourassa has served as the school's only head baseball coach during the program's four year existence. The athletic department thanks Coach Bourassa for his committed service and wishes him the best in his future endeavors."
Bourassa has also resigned from his position as offensive coordinator for the Eagles football team. He is the second Dulles District baseball coach to have resigned in the last week with Dominion's Jay Raines announcing his departure from the program last Thursday.
The Eagles finished 4-17 this spring and 1-13 in the Dulles District. Despite their dissapointing mark, they showed progress, hanging with the rest of the league in most of their games. Freedom was the hard luck loser several times out, dropping six district contests by a single run and losing 10 games by three runs or fewer.
Under Bourassa, Freedom's program has grown dramatically over the past four years, drawing enough players to field a junior varsity team.
In 2006, Bourassa founded Play to Win, an athletic and personal development company that proposed to build a $40 million sports complex in Ashburn last May. In September, the company gained approval to build its facility with the help of more than 2,000 Loudouners who signed a petition on the project's behalf.
