Dominion head baseball coach Jay Raines resigned Thursday after guiding the Titans to their second fourth place Dulles District finish in as many years.
Raines, the only coach in the six-year history of the program, led the Titans to a 10-11 record this season with a 7-7 mark in league play. Dominion nearly reached Thursday's tournament final to extend their season but the Titans lost to top seed and eventual champions Potomac Falls 1-0 in eight innings in Tuesday's semifinal.
"He gave everything he had to this program," Dominion Athletic Director Joe Flemming said. "There's so much work he put in that people don't realize. He wasn't one of those coaches who you'd see just during the spring season, he made it a year round job and really forged a connection with the kids.
Dominion will immediately begin the search for a replacement, Flemming said.
"Its very important that we find someone who can keep the momentum Jay built going," he said. "We want someone who takes the job as seriously as he did and keeps the spirit going."
