Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson will be on hand this evening as Loudouners rally to bring minor league baseball to Ashburn at the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors public input session.
This evening at the Loudoun County Government Center, Robinson will be joined by Loudoun residents and dozens of little league baseball players for a rally before the public input session in support of bringing minor league baseball to Loudoun County.
The input session will provide an opportunity for speakers to give their viewpoint on the vote to allow a special exception for a baseball stadium at the Route 28/7 Kincora site. (Click here for an artist's rendering of the stadium). The input session will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Robinson is a member of the Kincora Advisory Board of Directors that is directing an effort to bring an Atlantic League (AL) franchise in time to play the 2011 season. He is also in the ownership group of three AL teams.
Early last month, VIP Baseball reached a deal with the eight-team Atlantic League of Professional Baseball - which is not affiliated with major league clubs - to bring a new franchise to Loudoun pending the construction of a 5,500-seat stadium at the intersection of routes 28 and 7 in Ashburn. Discussions to bring a minor league team to Loudoun began in December.
Here's a neat fly through the proposed park design and surrounding development from the Kincora site.
