Dan Sousa, the man behind LoudounPrepSports.com, resigned from his position as editor of the site and left DigitalSports on Tuesday.
On Monday, DigitalSports - which bought Loudounprepsports.com about a year ago - was purchased by Vantage Learning, a self-proclaimed "pioneer in providing Software as a Service (SaaS) to K12 schools and districts."
Yesterday, Dan announced his departure from the company and his brainchild (and life for the past four years), LoudounPrepSports. On a new blog called VivaLoudoun (which has a much better ring to it than "Viva Viagra" in my opinion), Dan wrote that he "wasn't able to come to terms with the new owners."
It's a truly unfortunate development for the Loudoun sports community as Dan has been a veritable one-man-band of print, photo and video coverage for all of Loudoun's high school sports programs in recent years. He's pushed himself to the limit by running all over the county to catch double-headers, cover signing ceremonies and provide a one-stop shopping media outlet for anyone interested in Loudoun County sports. But this is just another sign of how hard the media industry has been hit by tough economic times. Cutbacks, layoffs, reorganization and the dissolution of entire newspapers continue to occur across the region and the country and everyone is effected.
But as anyone who knows Dan will tell you, we certainly haven't seen the last of him on the high school sports front. He'll still be on the sidelines from time to time and from the sounds of it, he'll be delving into news coverage as well. We wish him the best during the transition and will certainly follow VivaLoudoun with a keen eye. Dan, I look forward to chatting it up on the sidelines with you again this fall.

You knew it was a Big Game in LoCo when Dan was on the sidelines. Hard to imagine a more dedicated or harder working journalist than Dan. ESPN Rise take note!

Dan was very good to me a few years ago when I worked for him as a photographer. He always made sure I was taken care of. He also made sure all kids and all sports were covered. I am sure Dan will be back in the Sports Media Picture before long.

What about Gameday Magazine? I agree that LoudounPrep was a decent place to go for local sports info, but to say he was the best at what he did is a bit over the top. Gameday covered the games live and I was able to watch and listen to my son's games all year long, and their photos were great! Dan is a good guy...don't get me wrong...but c'mon! He wasn't the ONLY game in Loudoun as you all proclaim him...
