This week, we'll display the Top Performers a little differently. The first thing you will see is our selections for Week 2's Top Performers. That will be broken up by a small paragraph in which Tenorio laments yet another loss in his predictions, which will be followed by the results from last week's picks. Finally, you'll see our predictions for Week 3.
Also, we are announcing a change in one category. Because defensive stats for individual players are almost impossible to come by, we will be changing the defense category into one for an entire unit. We cannot pick the same team two weeks in a row.
Now, onto...
WEEK 2 ACTUAL TOP PERFORMERS
QB: Chris Jessop, Broad Run - The Spartans senior signal-caller went off for two passing TDs (4-of-8, 53 yards) and two more scores (5 carries, 98 yards) on the ground - and he was pulled with 9:44 left in the third quarter.
RB: Ross Madison, Heritage - Senior rushed for 120 yards on 8 carries with two touchdowns (including a 90-yarder), hauled in one pass for 19 yards and also returned a kick 90 yards for a score.
WR: TIE: Chad McMichael, Potomac Falls and Mike Ayoub, Loudoun County - McMichael came up big in the Panthers' rout, catching five balls for 140 yards and a touchdown and returning a kickoff for another score - his first career kickoff return TD. Ayoub once again showed his playmaking ability, hauling in 10 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown.
PK: Josh Thiel, Heritage - Hit five of seven extra point attempts and also added a 27-yard field goal in the Pride's win over North Hagerstown.
DEF: Heritage-The Pride had three defensive touchdowns, returning an interception 73 yards for a score, a fumble 38 yards for a score and recovering another fumble for a TD.
Note: From now on we're going to pick team defenses instead of individual players - without having someone taking down individual defensive stats at every game, it's just too hard to compare picks. However, we'll gladly take e-mails from coaches and parents nominating individual defensive players (just as we do with all positions) for top performer honors. Just include the name, team and year and his statistics and send it to either matt.brooks@wpni.com or tenoriop@washpost.com. This week Park View Coach Andy Hill sent in a great stat-line for junior DB Nathan Santana who snagged three interceptions, deflected a pass and made six tackles.
O-Line: Broad Run - There wasn't much to dispute here as the Spartans steamrolled Ballou for six rushing touchdowns and 263 yards on the ground.
Playmaker: Jeff Pugh, Freedom - The junior led the Eagles to their first win since 2006, rushing for 87 yards and two touchdowns in a 22-14 victory over Brentsville.
WEEK 2 PREDICTION RESULTS
As we continue to look at our selections from last week, it's pretty clear that Brooks is currently dominating Tenorio. Last week, Tenorio won only two categories. This week, it's a clean sweep. Tenorio has declared he will rebound during the district games, and in his defense many of his selections had tremendous nights only to lose out in a numbers game. Brooks says: "You play to win the game!" in his best Herman Edwards voice.

Defense
Brooks: Russell East, Sr., MLB, Heritage
Prediction: 7 tackles, sack, forced fumble.
Tenorio: Chase Williams, Jr., LB, Loudoun County
Prediction: 12 tackles, 2 sacks.
DEFENSIVE STATS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR EITHER PLAYER (Tenorio says Chase Williams dominated in number of tackles but Brooks will not allow that to win Tenorio the category...Brooks says for all we know, East could've had 30 tackles and 2 sacks. The only fair way to do this is by selecting a team defense, which is what we'll do from now on.)

Actual: 263 yards rushing, 6 rushing TDs.

Do you guys even go to Heritage games? Ross Madison rarely runs the ball as much as you are predicting. Get a little more realistic.
