It's time again for the Loudoun County Top Five Power Poll. We've got the same standings again this week with all five teams winning their district matchups on Friday night. That said, we've got two huge matchups between Nos. 2 and 3 and Nos. 4 and 5 this week so expect a shake up this time next week.
Today we're pulling out our abacuses and calculators to take a look at each team 'by the numbers.' We'll hit two key statistics and discuss how they've impacted the success of each team so far this season.
1. No. 2 STONE BRIDGE (8-0, 5-0 AAA Liberty) Last week: 1
Week 7 Result: def. Madison 35-0
Next Big Test: Oct. 31 vs. W.T. Woodson
0 - Points allowed by the Bulldogs in each of their last two games. In Friday's win at Madison, Stone Bridge allowed 58 total yards of offense and didn't concede a first down until midway through the third quarter. Oh yeah, and they were missing stud defensive end Zach Thompson, too.
8.0 - Yards per carry average for senior running back Daniel Allen this season. After being used sparingly early on, Allen has become a real focal part of the Bulldogs' attack in recent weeks, carrying 43 times for 220 total yards in his last two games and scoring five times in that span. Coach Mickey Thompson said he will continue to increase Allen's workload as Stone Bridge rolls toward the playoffs.
2. No. 17 BROAD RUN (7-0, 4-0 AA Dulles) Last week: 2
Week 7 Result: def. Loudoun County 37-17
Next Big Test: Friday vs. Potomac Falls
17 - Consecutive regular season games won by Broad Run. The last non-playoff game they lost: Nov. 10, 2006, 35-21, to Park View. In the 17 wins, Broad Run has outscored opponents by an average of 23 points (33.2 - 9.8). Another amazing stat connected to the number 17: The Nov. 10, 2006 loss was also the last time a team put up more than 17 points on the Spartans. Loudoun County posted 17 last Friday and Dominion did so on Oct. 12, 2007.
16 - The least number of points scored during the regular season by a Broad Run team since Oct. 13, 2006. The 16 point output came in a 10 point win over, guess who, Potomac Falls on Oct. 29 last year. Oh, that Oct. 13, 2006 game? It was a 23-14 loss to...you guessed it, Potomac Falls. (Broad Run scored 12 points in the playoff loss to Park View last season.)
3. POTOMAC FALLS (7-0, 4-0 AA Dulles), Last week: 3
Week 7 Result: def. Freedom 54-0
Next Big Test: Friday at Broad Run
5- Games in which RB Michael Baker has scored at least two touchdowns for Potomac Falls this season. The only two games in which he hasn't found the end zone at least twice have come in the last two weeks against Park View (no touchdowns) and Freedom (one touchdown in just a half of work).
45 - Points per game for the Panthers, third in the Washington area. The only teams scoring more per game: No. 2 Stone Bridge (49.125) and No. 5 River Hill (51.429).
3 - Minimum number of touchdowns in which Gregory Woodlief has played a part in every game this season. He has had two passing touchdowns and one rushing score in four games (Martinsburg, Hedgesville, Jefferson, Park View), three passing touchdowns with no rushing scores once (Heritage), one passing touchdown and two rushing once (Freedom) and two apiece in one game (Loudoun County).
4. BRIAR WOODS (6-1, 3-1 AA Dulles) Last week: 4
Week 7 Result: def. Park View 14-6
Next Big Test: Friday vs. Heritage
130 - Minimum yards rushing in every game this season. The Falcons are averaging 182 rushing yards per game this season, with the low of 130 against Manassas Park and a high of 306 against Hedgesville.
13.6 - Points allowed per game in the past two seasons. The Falcons have allowed just six points per game in their six wins this year and have also held opponents to 60 yards rushing or less in all but two games this season (Broad Run, Loudoun County).
5. HERITAGE (5-2, 2-2 AA Dulles) Last Week: 5
Week 7 Result: def. Dominion 14-7
Next Big Test: Friday at Briar Woods
132 - Minimum number of yards Ross Madison has rushed for in a game over the last three weeks. The senior running back is shouldering a huge load for the Pride as he is second in the district with 137 carries on the season, but that hasn't stopped him from leading his team two back-to-back victories to keep Heritage firmly in the playoff hunt.
68.7 - Average yards rushing allowed by the Pride in their last three games. After being trampled for and average of more than 190 yards in each of their first four games, Heritage has put the clamps on opposing rushers. They held Broad Run to just 55 yards on the ground and limited the elusive Deandre Reaves to only 43 yards on 15 carries in Friday's win. The front seven will need to have a similar performance on Friday night against a Briar Woods offense that averages 37 carries and 182 yards on the ground per game if the Pride hope to walk out of downtown Brambleton with a 'W'.
ON THE BUBBLE: Loudoun County (3-4, 1-3), Park View (2-5, 1-3)
