Our thanks to Jami Meador, who sends this notice along about Friday's home game against Potomac Falls:

"This Friday, Park View High School will celebrate its 1988 football state championship. The Patriots invite all 1988 football players and student alumni to join us in honoring them. The 1988 Patriot football team finished the season with an undefeated record of 14-0, capping it off with a 51-7 victory over Brookville in the state final. So join the Park View faithful in honoring the 1988 alumni."

And for those looking to take a trip down memory lane, here's The Washington Post's account of the game which took place on Dec. 3, 1988 in Lynchburg:

Park View left nothing to question today, winning its first state title with a 51-7 trouncing of Brookville in the Virginia Class AA Division 4 championship game before 3,800 at Stinger Stadium.

The fourth-ranked Patriots, once labeled a conservative team with only one capable back, came full circle. Two Park View running backs combined to rush for 248 yards and six touchdowns, its defense had three interceptions and kicker Chris Dawson set a state playoff record with a 48-yard field goal.

"At the beginning of the year we really didn't know what we had," said Park View Coach Ed Scott. "We had a lot of little groups within the team. But as the season went on, they all came together.

"Like I told the team, I don't think it's the best team that wins the games, it's the ones that are the most prepared and I think {Park View} was."

Tailback Tony Conway rushed 18 times for 204 yards and scored four touchdowns and fullback Brett Stone rushed eight times for 44 yards and two touchdowns.
