Heritage jumps back up to No. 2 and now sits in control of the regular season title, but it seems no team wants to do anything about it…
1. Stone Bridge (11-0-1, 5-0-1 AAA Liberty)
No. 2 Stone Bridge will be without the services of its top player, Ronnie Shaban, through the rest of the regular season and in the first round of the district playoffs, but the Bulldogs showed they still have the talent to win, pulling off a 3-1 victory over Broad Run. The Bulldogs also got some help last night when Woodson tied Jefferson to give Stone Bridge control of its own destiny as they look to capture the Liberty District title.
Best Wins - 3-2 over then-No. 3 Robinson, 1-0 over McLean, 3-0 over then-No. 6 Langley.
Next Big Test- May 8 at Madison
2. Heritage (9-1-2, 8-1-2 AA Dulles)
Heritage has jumped up to No. 2 as they hold a solid five-point lead at the top of the Dulles District race after a 3-0 win over Freedom. Led by Ivan Callejas and Amadu Bangaru, I don't know if the Pride are playing at the level they were earlier in the season, but I do believe they can get back there in time for the start of districts. Every team has a little lapse, and the Pride have to be glad they went through that 0-1-2 phase before the playoffs.
Best Wins - 1-0 over then-No. 10 Potomac Falls, 2-0 over Broad Run
Next Big Test - May 9 at Dominion
3. Broad Run (7-4-3, 7-2-3 AA Dulles)
The Spartans tied Park View 2-2 to lose ground on Heritage in the Dulles District race, and it will be interesting to see what shakes up in the race for second place now. I think the Spartans defense is the key, but I don’t think any one team is really asserting itself as we come down the stretch and get ready for the playoffs.
Best Wins - 2-0 over Potomac Falls, 1-0 over Loudoun County
Next Big Test - Friday at Potomac Falls
4. Park View (9-2-3, 7-2-3 AA Dulles)
The Patriots play a very pretty type of soccer and it's impressive what they have been able to continue to do this season even without the services of their top scorer and returning All-District player. Not much else to say other than that they're a team that I think has the potential to beat anybody when they are playing their best and simply need to be "on" when it comes to scoring goals. Because if no one is stepping up to fill that goal-scoring need, a whole bunch of possession will get you nowhere.
Best Wins - 3-1 over Broad Run, 2-1 over Loudoun County
Next Big Test - May 13 at Freedom
5. Potomac Falls (9-4-1, 7-4-1 AA Dulles)
Once again, a disappointing result for the Panthers, who fell 2-0 to Dominion last night. This is a team that has to be frustrated with its results because I think they have can point to where the problems start and then from there can figure out how that translates into the lack of confidence or on-field problems that are leading to these losses. I'll be interested to see whether one of the leaders on this team is able to step up and take a hold of the squad, and whether Onyeador can reach the state goal-scoring record.
Best Wins - 6-0 over Dominion, 3-2 over Park View, 3-1 over Heritage
Next Big Test - Friday vs Broad Run
On the Bubble: Loudoun County, Dominion
