Matt Brooks at 1:31 p.m., July 7, 2008

Briar Woods graduate John Maghamez was the starting center for the East team at the Virginia High School Coaches Association All Star football game on Friday at Hampton's Darling Stadium. Maghamez - Briar Woods' first All-State football selection - is set to attend the University of Virginia in the fall.

The West won the game 7-0, in a defensive battle that lacked many highlights on the offensive side of the ball.

In the first photo, Maghamez double-teams a pass-rusher from the West, protecting East quarterback Tommy Reamon, Jr. during the first quarter of Friday's game.

Pictured with Maghamez in the second photo are his parents, Al and Michele and Briar Woods Coach Charlie Pierce.
